GE Capital Celebrates Volunteers Day Across India.
Over 3000 GE Volunteers to participate in 20 not-for-profit activities
New Delhi, July 5, 2009: GE Capital celebrated GE Volunteers Day across India on Friday. GE Volunteers Day is the beginning of a week when over 3000 volunteers from GE Capital and other GE businesses in India are participating in 20 different not-for-profit activities. During this week, GE Volunteers are donating blood, planting trees, generating awareness among children about environmental preservation, donating clothes, medicines, books and school uniforms and spending time with differently-abled or disadvantaged elderly people and children.
"This week our employees across India are driving 20 different not-for-profit activities in the areas of education, healthcare and environment. We encourage our employees to regularly take time out from their work day and spend it wisely for a community cause of their choice and GE Volunteers Day is a way to make that happen," said Anish Shah, President & CEO, GE Capital India. "Several not-for-profit organizations are partnering with us during this week. I want to thank all our partners for giving us the opportunity to contribute to their cause and help their beneficiaries."
"Volunteerism is very important to us at GE. It allows good people to do great things. GE Volunteers have been active in India for over a decade. Last year, our volunteers spent over 20,000 hours supporting over 35 not-for-profit organizations/projects across India," said Sanjeev Jain, GE Volunteers Leader in India. "GE Volunteers Day is a concerted effort whereby our volunteers reaffirm their commitment to a cause of their choice."
Some not-for-profit organizations/projects that GE Volunteers are supporting through this week include: Sankara Eye Hospital (Bangalore), St Joseph's Boys Orphanage (Cochin) Good Life Centre (Chennai), Sewa Bharti (Chandigarh), Literacy India (Delhi), Goonj (Delhi), Rotary Blood Bank (Delhi), SPOWAC (Delhi), Prayas Institute of Juvenile Justice (Delhi), Sankalp (Gurgaon), Don Bosco (Hyderabad), Denver School for Blind (Hyderabad), Dhopahat Milan Sangha (Kolkata), Red Cross Bhawan (Ludhiana), Indian Red Cross Society (Mumbai), Matru Sewa Sangh (Nagpur), Akanksha Foundation & Thermax Social Initiative Foundation (Pune), Centenary High School (Secunderabad).
